4th generation Spurs fan: my great grandad was Spurs, my grandad was Spurs, my dad is Spurs, I am Spurs.

Mostly entirely Tottenham Hotspur stuff here.

🎶 I'm lovin' Big Ange instead 🎶

Up the Spurs 🤍

Ha, love the opening line from Ali Gold's talking points

"This was the angriest Ange Postecoglou has been since his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur. It only took him four months of the season to feel the fires burning within him at a club which will eventually do that to you."

[FourFourTwo] The GENIUS Way Tottenham Came Back Against Man City

Some good analysis from Adam here.

"NO, they COMPLETELY deserve that point at a BARE MINIMUM! And to call them lucky or to say they need to adapt their style COMPLETELY misses the point of what Ange Postecoglou is doing here."

Adam on Lo Celso: "He did not misplace one single pass in the entire 90 minutes EVEN with Rodri up his arse"

Almost true. He made 40 out of 40 passes for 100% accuracy, but he "only" played 79', not 90. Still, impressive given the intense circumstances.

👆 This is an excellent interview with Madders if you’ve not already watched it. Fascinating to hear direct from a key player what Ange is really like. He really is as he’s been described. It’s not a mythology that has built around him, and players seem to really get on with his style.

Would a midfield three or Bissouma, Lo Celso, and Maddison work? Along with Bentancur as rotation with Biss and Lo Celso.

I've been so impressed with Lo Celso in for Sarr. Perhaps leaves Biss too exposed? Biss, Sarr, Porro, and Deki had a nice little understanding developing on the right and that is perhaps missing now. Hojbjerg coming on provided that much needed support for Biss and it made all the difference.

@mike
@mlawton @spurs Fearsome reputations are powerful things. Of all the things Ange is doing, I think the most fundamental and important (especially for Spurs) is instilling that bravery, trust, and belief. I see some parallels with ancient firewalking rituals. It's easy to talk about being brave as if you just turn it on. But it's another thing actually walking across those embers. It's so, so hard to coach.

hallenbeck,
@hallenbeck@mastodon.online avatar

@mike @mlawton @spurs

I get your point. As Ange himself has said repeatedly, he's not trying to prove a point; he truly believes it's how you win.

But I wouldn't say nothing happens.

From Wikipedia page on firewalking: "Social theorists have long argued that the performance of intensely arousing collective events such as firewalking persists because it serves some basic socialising function, such as social cohesion, team building, and so on." ... (cont)

Continued...

"there is a physiological foundation for collective religious rituals, through the alignment of emotional states, which strengthens group dynamics and forges a common identity amongst participants."

I sense a lot of that going on watching Spurs. The high-risk style is (extremely) thrilling and frightening and I think it does indeed align the fanbase and forge a common identity. These are qualities many have spoken of Ange bringing.
